St. Ambrose University offers three choirs open for students to join. Through our choir you can build a sense of community, develop your skill, and gain a sense of accomplishment. Participation in a choir can even net you a $1,500 tuition reward, in addition to other talent-based rewards.
A select ensemble of students and community singers studying and performing significant choral literature of all periods and styles, including an emphasis on fascinating new works by living composers.
No formal audition is required, just a brief vocal diagnostic to assess your range.
Participants receive an automatic, renewable $1500 award for participation. Additional talent-based awards are available with an audition.
A select, mixed-voice chamber choir of 24–32 singers performs literature for the chamber choir, particularly music of the Renaissance, Early Baroque, and Nineteenth-Century Vocal Chamber Music. Auditions take place the first week of classes.
A select ensemble of students who perform a wide range of music, including Jazz and Contemporary a cappella music, often in original arrangements. Membership is by audition. Auditions take place the first week of classes.
Another memorable experience from my time at St. Ambrose was getting the opportunity to travel abroad twice within four years with both Chamber Singers and Symphonic Band. Having the opportunity to perform in such beautiful locations with some of my closest friends was something I will truly never forget!
I have a course conflict with part of a rehearsal. Can I still join?
While we have done our best to avoid scheduling conflicts, unavoidable conflicts are handled on a case-by-case basis. The best thing to do is contact the ensemble directors as soon as you are aware of the conflict.
Can I be a part of Chamber Singers without singing in Chorale?
Yes! If you have a Music scholarship, the default ensemble is University Chorale. You would be welcome in Chamber Singers, but that would be in addition to Chorale.
When will audition information be sent out?
Choir diagnostics take place the three days before classes begin, as well as on the first day of classes as needed. Each SAU student will receive a calendar link to schedule their individual diagnostic time. We will provide the music for you! It’s a short melody (usually “America the Beautiful”) with simple range exercises.
I am at 18 credit hours and cannot join a choir without paying the overload fee. May I still participate?
Absolutely! Contact the ensemble director for more information on registering for 0 credits.
